History:This land was originally a part of Oneida Nation territory, before being ceded to the State of New York by treaty in 1788. The property has been in the Norton family for four generations, and currently as of writing, has one resident: Ruth Norton. Several families were involved with the physical and intellectual development of the property—the Clarke, Browning, Norton and Hoff families.
Early letters described this property as the “Stone House,” a namesake after the beautiful handcrafted stone home situated on the property, which was constructed over 100 years ago. The Norton family has raised chickens, maintained a blueberry patch as a community garden for over 130 years, and planted thousands of trees in their time residing on the property. The existing trail system on the property was originally established and maintained by the Norton family.
