Tug Hill Community Picnic 2025 September 20, 202510:00 am - 2:00 pm « Mohawk Valley Gives September Tug Hill Book and Beverage Club » We hope that you, your family and friends will be able to join us for a day of celebrating conservation and community at our 2025 Tug Hill Community Picnic Saturday, September 20th 10:00am-2:00pm at Stone House Preserve 1150 Swartz Road Camden, NY 13316 Event Registration & Lunch Preorder We invite you to join one of the optional group outings to learn more about the natural history of Stone House Preserve, or visit the Fun Zone with hands-on activities for the young and young at heart. We’ll gather over lunch (Pre-order lunch through us or pack your own) to highlight the amazing work that you have made possible in 2025 and take a look ahead at what exciting work the future holds. Dr. Chris Nowak, professor at SUNY ESF, will talk about why sustaining Tug Hill’s core forests matters, from protecting clean water and wildlife habitat to ensuring the health of our communities and landscapes for the future. Topics of discussion will likely include birds, trees, fungi, animal signs and more as you make discoveries together along the way. Stone House Walkabout Take a gentle tour of the grounds surrounding our picnic site and learn about the Norton family’s connection to the land, what’s in the garden, and the care behind the flourishing blueberry patch. Along the way, you’ll see the historic stone house and barn, solar panels powering the property, a serene pond, trailheads inviting further exploration, and beautifully preserved stone walls. Fun Zone: Games, Crafts and Fun Dive into hands-on activities inspired by our four themed backpacks featured at the community libraries Activities include: Scavenger Hunt: Search for birds and animal signs on the trails. Nature Journaling: Add your own discoveries with track stamps, rubbings, and stickers. Bird Watching: Try out binoculars and tune in to the sounds of Tug Hill’s feathered friends. Relax & Play: Enjoy a story, color a picture, tackle a puzzle, or test your skills with Tug Hill trivia for a chance to win a prize.
