Habitat:The property is entirely forested and situated on the Independence River, which can support trout populations. No rare, threatened, or endangered species are known to exist on the property.

History:There are remnants of an old homestead on the Chases Lake Road with barbed wire and stone walls on some property lines, indicating that the property may have been pastured in the past. Historically, logs were driven down Independence River. There are old drill holes along the river at the north boundary, where iron rods were drilled into the stone to secure log booms and direct the flow. Robert and Carol Keller purchased the property in 2008 and placed it under a conservation easement with the Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT). The land was mostly used for their personal recreation and occasional THTLT programs. In 2025, the land was transferred to THTLT to be enjoyed by the public.
