September marks an important time for the many beekeepers in the Tug Hill region and elsewhere in the U.S, when honey collection season typically finishes up, and bees begin to secure their hives and prepare for winter. The honey collected is not only sweet and delicious, adding great flavor to all sorts of foods and drinks – it also offers some serious nutritional benefits. Honey bees are also among the most important pollinators of fruits and vegetables. Without them, we wouldn’t have apples, cabbage, lemons, onions or watermelon, and that’s only a handful of the foods that would disappear.
