Smith Public Conservation Area » Reservations Required Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be hiking among trees almost 200 hundred years old? Come along with us as we take an autumn hike exploring one of the most remote, beautiful old growth forests on Tug Hill. Naturalist and outdoorsman, Zach Wakeman will lead this off-trail hike over moderately difficult terrain inside land designated as New York State Forest Preserve. This outing is open to the public at no charge, thanks to our generous donors. Registration is required. Meet at the parking area on the Osceola-West Leyden Road (County Route 46) just west of the bridge over the Salmon River (street address approximately 1999 Osceola Road, West Leyden, NY 13489; Google Coordinates 43.489818, -75.652058). NOTE: THERE IS NO GPS RECEPTION IN OSCEOLA. Please print the directions/maps we send you prior to heading out to the hike. You should wear sturdy waterproof boots, dress for the weather and bring along your bag lunch/snacks and water. A long-sleeved overshirt option, brimmed hat and bug repellent are recommended just in case.
