Rodman, Jefferson County
Upon graduating from the University of Glasgow (Scotland) Veterinary School in 1989, Melanie has practiced veterinary medicine in the North Country. Working at a mixed animal practice eight years before venturing out into solo farm animal practice in 1998, affectionately named Cowcalls Incorporated, she works mainly with dairy farmers and their cows, but also takes care of horses, sheep, goats and small animals.
She has a deep respect for dairy farmers and their families with the challenges that they face daily: low milk prices, adverse weather conditions and environmental concerns. Melanie says, “Their work ethic is amazing and I am in awe of them on a daily basis. My work with them is extremely fulfilling and am hopeful for their future as I watch their sons and daughters take over the farm.”
Melanie and her husband, David, raised their two sons in Rodman, NY and don’t believe there is any greater place to enjoy the wonders of Tug Hill than in Jefferson County. “Our respect of the environment and natural world has been instilled in our sons as they move forward in their career as cadets at the US Coast Guard Academy.” Melanie said.
She is also a volunteer in the following areas: South Jefferson Central School District, Samaritan Medical Center, United Presbyterian Church of Sackets Harbor, and Jefferson County Animal Task Force.
