SUMMARY:Evening Birding at the Murray Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxing evening bird walk along the Douglas L. Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail\, Route 177\, Rodman\, NY. The trail has two loops totaling 1.6 miles which highlight the agricultural nature of the property surrounding the Development Authority of the North Country’s solid waste management facility. The Murray Trail is available for year-round\, non-motorized recreational use. The Murray Trail is named for former Development Authority board member and chairman\, and former THTLT board member\, Doug Murray. \nWe’ll meet at the parking area one-quarter mile north of the solid waste management facility main entrance on Route 177 in the Town of Rodman and gather for brief introductions and birding tips. We’ll then take an easy walk along the trails through field and forest looking and listening for birds\, with frequent stops. As we walk\, we’ll share more tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds. \nSturdy shoes that can get wet are recommended\, as the trail often has very wet spots. Trails are mowed grass and forest footpaths. Bring along your binoculars and some insect repellent\, just in case. SUMMARY:Evening Spring Bird Walk on the Murray Trail
DESCRIPTION:Explore the woods and fields along the Douglas L. Murray Trail on Route 177 near Rodman\, NY with us to listen and look for Spring birds! We’ll meet in the parking lot with a brief introduction to birds we might see and/or hear\, and slowly make our way along the 0.8-mile Loop 1 trail to look and listen. Along the way\, we’ll share tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds. This will be an easy\, slow walk\, through scrubby field and forested habitats with frequent stops. \nThe trail is mowed and relatively uneven\, with grass and leafy surfaces\, and mostly flat in elevation. The Murray Trail is named for former Development Authority board member and chairman\, Doug Murray. Doug also served as a founding board member for Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust. SUMMARY:Murray Trail Winter Hike
DESCRIPTION:Cancelled Due to High Wind Warning \n  \nLet’s celebrate the arrival of December! Head outside for a free\, family-friendly hike at the Development Authority of the North Country’s Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail in Rodman. If we get enough snow\, snowshoes or cross-country skis are welcome. \nHikers will meet at the Murray Trail parking area on NYS Route 177 at 10 am. The parking lot is located on the south side of the road\, west of the official entrance for the Development Authority and east of the Village of Rodman. Look for the brown Murray Trails trailhead sign\, our THTLT sandwich board sign\, and the white building set back from the parking area. Wear your sturdy waterproof boots (gaiters optional)\, or bring your cross-country skis or snowshoes\, and dress in layers appropriate for the weather. Explore the woods and fields for these tiny\, colorful\, sweetly singing birds with us. \nEvent Details\n\nSaturday\, May 14th\n7am-9am\nDouglas L. Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail near Rodman\, NY\nRegistration is required no later than 8 pm on Thursday\, May 13th\n\nWe’ll start at the parking lot with a brief introduction to warblers we might see and/or hear\, and slowly make our way along the loop trails to look and listen. Along the way\, we’ll share tips for finding and observing these spring and summer visitors\, a group of which may be called a bouquet\, a confusion\, a fall\, or a wrench of birds. \nPlease dress for the weather\, wear sturdy walking shoes\, and bring along a pair of binoculars. If you have a spotting scope\, you might bring it along as well. Downloading the free mobile app eBird on your phone before attending and/or bringing along your favorite bird guide could help with identification.
