SUMMARY:Tug Hill Traverse Trail Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Help us make progress on a historic Tug Hill hiking route – the Tug Hill Traverse Trail – and count yourself a vital part of the effort! \nTwice a month\, from June to September\, volunteers meet in the heart of Tug Hill and work together to maintain current sections of the trail as well as clear and mark remaining sections. With over 10 miles completed\, eventually the full trail will cover approximately 20 miles\, from Montague to Osceola\, through the amazing and remote core forest\, headwaters of the East Branch of Fish Creek. \nVolunteers meet at the day’s designated location at 10:00 am and work until 2:00 pm. Stay for an hour\, stay for the day – it’s all good. \nWe’ll email those signed up for each date a few days prior to give the day’s meeting location\, suggest what kinds of tools to bring if available\, and provide driving directions and a map. Work gloves\, a brimmed hat\, lightweight long pants and shirt sleeves\, insect repellent\, sturdy hiking/work shoes\, water and a brown bag lunch/snacks are recommended. \nTug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust has partnered for several years with the Black River Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club to establish this historic 20-mile north/south hiking trail through the heart of Tug Hill. The Tug Hill Traverse Trail extends from the DEC’s Tug Hill Wildlife Management Area on the north to the West Leyden Osceola Rd on the south\, and generally follows the East Branch of Fish Creek. SUMMARY:Birding\, Bluebirds and Bingo at Constable Hall
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join us for a bird walk followed by information about bluebirds\, and a game of Bird Bingo at Constable Hall on Tuesday\, July 14th\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. There is no fee for attending or for parking. \nFirst\, we’ll explore the Hall’s many bird habitat areas to look and listen for birds while sharing birding tips\, tricks and birding apps that come in handy. There should be plenty of activity as the migratory birds are returning! \nThen we’ll gather to learn about bluebirds\, nest boxes and nest box monitoring with Vici and Steven Diehl from the North Country Bird Club\, and finish with a fun round or two of Bird Bingo to reinforce our learning about the differences in field markings of common birds and win prizes! \nThis is a slow easy walk over stone dust\, grassy and leafy surfaces with two short uphill sections. Attendees are encouraged to bring their cell phone\, binoculars and curiosity about birds! You might wish to upload the free Merlin and/or eBird apps on your phone prior to attending\, but it’s not required. \nRSVP HERE

Participants may choose to take part in one or both removal efforts. This event is also part of the Land Protectors Learning Experience. \nDate: Thursday\, July 23\, 2026\nTime: 9:00am – 3:00pm\nMeet Location: Montario Point Boat Launch in Ellisburg\, NY \nWater Chestnut Removal (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)\nPlease arrive by 8:45 AM to prepare your watercraft and equipment for launch. Opening remarks and instructions will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. Participants should bring a bagged lunch to enjoy during the event. \nYellow Iris Removal (1:15 PM – 3:00 PM)\nMeet at the boat launch parking area at 1:15 PM. Equipment will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered who is singing outside your window or soaring above the trees? \nJoin us at Flower Memorial Library on July 29th at 6:30 pm for a beginner friendly introduction to the world of birds for all ages!  \nLearn how to spot common birds\, practice using binoculars\, and discover simple tips for identifying birds by their colors\, shapes and songs. Whether you’re a curious kid\, a nature-loving adult\, or a family looking for a new hobby to enjoy together\, this is a great way to start or expand your outdoor explorations. No experience is needed – just bring your curiosity and love of nature! \nThere is no charge for attending or for parking. \nWe’ll have a limited number of binoculars available for those without their own. \nYou may want to add Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s free eBird (checklist keeper) and/or Merlin (bird ID) apps to your smart phone prior to the program.
