SUMMARY:Birds and Bingo at Constable Hall
DESCRIPTION:Young and old are encouraged to join us for a bird walk followed by a rousing game of Bird Bingo at Constable Hall on Tuesday\, May 5th\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. We’ll explore the Hall’s many bird habitat areas to look and listen for birds while sharing birding tips\, tricks and birding apps that come in handy. There should be plenty of activity as the migratory birds are returning! Then we’ll rest and play a fun round or two of Bird Bingo to reinforce our learning about the differences in field markings of common birds and win prizes! \nThere is no fee for attendance or parking. This is a slow easy walk over stone dust\, grassy and leafy surfaces with two short uphill sections. Attendees are encouraged to bring their cell phone\, binoculars and curiosity about birds! You might wish to upload the free Merlin and/or eBird apps on your phone prior to attending\, but it’s not required. \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:Tug Hill Book Club May 28 Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, May 28\, 6:00 – 7:30 pm for our next Tug Hill Book Club meeting. Our in-person location will be St. Drogo’s Coffee and Bake House\, 7514 South State Street\, Lowville. \nWe are a friendly\, informal group who like to read mostly (but not only) non-fiction books about animals\, natural history\, cultural history and environmental issues happening in or applicable to the Tug Hill region.  The Tug Hill Book club meets at 6 pm on the fourth Thursday of every other month beginning in March. We alternate gathering locations between a Watertown and Lowville site for each gathering. All meetings are hybrid so all can attend in whatever way works best for them – location directions and an online link is provided to all prior to each meeting. \nTwo books are suggested for each discussion. Members can choose to read one or both books based on their interest and reading time available. Join in when you’d like for whatever books you’d like – there’s no pressure to read for every gathering. Readers are responsible for obtaining a copy of the books themselves (any form – paper\, online\, audio\, etc.) \nWe also have a Tug Hill Book and Beverage Club Facebook group for between-meeting discussions and announcements through Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust. Check it out if you’re on Facebook! \nFor May 28th\, we’re reading: \n1) Vulture: The Private Life of an Unloved Bird \nAfter reading this book you will never look at a vulture in the same way again. Vulture follows a year in the life of a typical North American turkey vulture. By incorporating information from scientific papers and articles\, as well as interviews with world-renowned raptor and vulture experts\, author Katie Fallon examines all aspects of the bird’s natural history: breeding\, incubating eggs\, raising chicks\, migrating\, and roosting. \n2) Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World \nChristian Cooper is a self-described “Blerd” (Black nerd)\, an avid comics fan and expert birder who devotes every spring to gazing upon the migratory birds that stop to rest in\nCentral Park\, just a subway ride away from where he lives in New York City. Better Living Through Birding recounts his experiences at home and around the world\, conveying his story of learning to claim and defend space for himself and others like him through vivid and life-changing birding expeditions through Africa\, Australia\, the Americas\, and the Himalayas. \n  \nRSVP HERE
