SUMMARY:Osceola Old Growth Forest Hike
DESCRIPTION:**This date is the rescheduled event date \nIf you have ever wondered how large trees over one hundred years old can be and love fall foliage\, then this is the hike for you. We invite you to explore one of the most remote\, beautiful old growth forests on Tug Hill as naturalist and outdoorsman\, Bob McNamara leads this hike. Plan on wearing sturdy boots\, as we will be doing off-trail hiking over moderately difficult terrain. The payoff for your efforts will be experiencing trees that have grown uninterrupted for hundreds of years. This hike is free and open to the community. \nWe will meet at the Osceola Tug Hill XC Ski Center (1486 Osceola Rd.\, Camden\, NY 13316) parking area and we’ll carpool to the site from there. As a reference point\, the XC Ski Center is located half a mile east of the Osceola Hotel. Google maps link: http://bit.ly/OsecolaXC ; GPS coordinates: 43.499682\, -75.712852. Please note that there is no cell phone reception at this location\, so you will need to screen shot your map and directions before heading out\, or use a paper map. Bring along a brown bag lunch\, water\, and wear comfortable hiking clothes and boots. \nAs a special promotion for hike attendees only\, the guidebook illustrated by McNamara\, “Tug Hill: A Four Season Guide to the Natural Side” will be sold for $15 (usually $27). Pick up your book at the hike and Bob will sign it for you. \nRegister Today!

SUMMARY:Snowy Owl Safari
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we look for owls\, hawks\, songbirds\, waterfowl and other wildlife in the fields and along the shoreline around Pt. Peninsula in the Town of Lyme. Ontario Bays Initiative Land Steward\, long-time birder and nature photographer\, Lee Ellsworth along with land trust staff will guide the group for this outing. \nWe will gather at the Chaumont state boat launch\, 11152 Barnes Bay Road\, Chaumont\, NY.  Participants will be traveling around the Point\, stopping as needed to observe wildlife\, both in and out of vehicles. Birds observed may include Snowy Owls\, Red-tailed and Rough-legged Hawks\, Northern Shrikes\, American Kestrels\, Bald Eagles\, Snow Buntings and more. The shoreline provides prime winter habitat for swans and a variety of waterfowl as well. Bring your field guide and binoculars. Participants may choose to have lunch together at the Blue Heron restaurant at the trip’s conclusion. \nRegistration is now closed for this event!
