DESCRIPTION:Let’s Go Birding Every Month! \nWant to get out\, learn your birds\, and have fun? Our new program allows you to do just that. \nThe first Wednesday of each month\, our staff\, volunteers or partners will greet you live on Facebook at 10:00 a.m. We will talk about where we will look for birds that day and what we expect to see\, offer birding tips\, and answer questions from viewers. Everyone is then encouraged to head out to bird in their own locations of choice. We will then check in live again at 5:00 p.m. so that everyone can share sightings and stories from the day. \nCan’t watch live? No worries – the sessions will be recorded and posted to our Facebook page and YouTube channel for viewing at your convenience. Can’t bird on Wednesdays? This is also no problem. Though everyone is encouraged to bird together\, if another time during the week is better for you to get out\, that’s OK\, too. DESCRIPTION:Let go of your worries during an easy paddle with Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT) on Sunday\, August 16th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. as we explore St. Mary’s Pond in the Happy Valley Wildlife Management Area\, Oswego County. THTLT board member and skilled naturalist Bob McNamara will be our trip leader. We will be out on the pond rain or shine\, barring any severe weather threats. We may explore additional nearby ponds\, should time and interest allow. \nPaddlers will meet at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) kiosk on Churchill Road\, off County Route 26 on the southern boundary of Happy Valley WMA (Google coordinates: 43 deg 2’ 04.0”N 76 deg 02’ 02.3’W). Take the Parish exit off of I81\, and follow County Route 26 east. Turn north onto Churchill Road (opposite Crim Road). \nBring your kayak or canoe\, life vest (PFD)\, lunch/snacks\, water\, sunscreen\, and a facemask for times when distancing is not feasible. Life vests are required for all boaters. Participants will need to sign a standard questionnaire regarding COVID potential symptoms and exposures before we embark. \nRegister Today!

DESCRIPTION:Let’s celebrate the arrival of December! Head outside for a free\, family-friendly hike at the Development Authority of the North Country’s Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail in Rodman. We’ll get outside to enjoy the day\, then warm up inside DANC’s Murray Center building at the end of the hike\, with hot cocoa and snacks provided by the land trust. \nHikers will meet at the Murray Trail parking area on NYS Route 177 at 10 am. The parking lot is located on the south side of the road\, west of the official entrance for the Development Authority and east of the Village of Rodman. Look for the brown Murray Trails trailhead sign\, our THTLT sandwich board sign\, and the white building set back from the parking area. DESCRIPTION:**This date is the rescheduled event date \nIf you have ever wondered how large trees over one hundred years old can be and love fall foliage\, then this is the hike for you. We invite you to explore one of the most remote\, beautiful old growth forests on Tug Hill as naturalist and outdoorsman\, Bob McNamara leads this hike. Plan on wearing sturdy boots\, as we will be doing off-trail hiking over moderately difficult terrain. The payoff for your efforts will be experiencing trees that have grown uninterrupted for hundreds of years. This hike is free and open to the community. \nWe will meet at the Osceola Tug Hill XC Ski Center (1486 Osceola Rd.\, Camden\, NY 13316) parking area and we’ll carpool to the site from there. The Baker Woods Preserve includes extensive river and wetland habitats\, a red pine plantation in transition\, and native coniferous and hardwood forests. \nTo get to the parking lot from NYS Route 3 in Natural Bridge\, turn south on Depot Street. Follow Depot Street as it veers to the left (crossing the Indian River) and becomes Factory Rd (about 1/4 mile). Go approximately 2 miles\, up a little hill past a white and then a red house on the right with a barn on the left\, and then past another white house. DESCRIPTION:Love early fall? Come on out and enjoy the fresh air with us! The Inman Glide Trail runs close to the edge of the gulf\, from which you can get some spectacular views into the 200-300 foot deep canyon. Scenic Rainbow Falls may be seen across the way on the north side of the rim. We hope to see you there as we enjoy early fall and fresh air at Tug Hill State Forest’s Inman Gulf Trails. Volunteer leader\, Ray Spahn\, will guide us on a vigorous walk through the forest to the Rainbow Falls overlook and beyond. \nWe’ll gather at the main Tug Hill State Forest/Barnes Corners parking lot located on the north side of State Route 177 between Rodman and Barnes Corners. The Inman Gulf trail system is easy to moderate difficulty for hiking. The pace for this event is best suited for adults and young adults. The trails are used primarily for hiking\, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing\, and travel through a mix of forest and wetland. DESCRIPTION:Want to get outside and enjoy every last minute of summer? Come bike the Potato Hill Farm & Trails with Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT) on Sunday\, August 18th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. We’re partnering with the Black River Outdoor Education Program (BROEP)\, who can provide bicycles and helmets for those without their own. There are also trails suitable for strollers and wheelchairs\, if you do not wish to bike. Registration is required. \nThe Potato Hill Farm (PHF) campus\, located near Boonville\, NY\, in Oneida County\, offers 7.4 miles of hiking\, biking and jogging trails across 170 acres of land. Along with the trail system\, the site hosts a working farm where visitors can see and visit Black Welsh Mountain sheep\, Limousin cattle\, Alpine Dairy goats\, Percheron horses\, alpacas\, and donkeys. Public bathrooms and picnic areas are available on grounds. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 3rd from 10:00 am to Noon\, we will lead an easy morning nature walk at a privately owned forest property in Lacona. Linda Fellers\, amateur photographer\, nature enthusiast and land trust supporter\, has generously offered to host us on her 12-acre property’s trail system\, at 177 Ballou Road\, Lacona. The outing is a free\, family-friendly\, informal guided hike in the woods on cleared trails. \nAs we walk the trail loop\, we’ll stop to explore the sights and sounds along the way\, letting our curiosity guide us. The trail travels through a mix of forest and small clearings\, with wooden bridges crossing a small stream.  Make sure and dress for the weather\, wear sturdy walking shoes (waterproof boots if it has been wet)\, and bring along tick and bug repellent. THTLT will have some water and snacks on hand. \nThe Fellers property is located at 177 Ballou Road\, Lacona\, NY.  Ballou Road runs between Bremm Road to the south\, and County Route 15 to the north. DESCRIPTION:Bring your kayak out for this easygoing paddle along the West Branch of Fish Creek! Kayakers of all skill levels are welcome to attend so invite your family and friends for an afternoon of weekend fun. Life jackets are required. For a packing list\, we suggest wearing comfortable outdoor clothes\, as well as bringing any water/snacks you may need. \nDirections to Westdale: Take Rt. 13 from Pulaski or Camden. Westdale is about 4.5 miles south east of Williamstown\, and about 5 miles northwest of Camden. Turn onto Cemetery Road and head for the DEC river access parking lot. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Natural Wonders Woods Walk in Stone Barn State Forest
DESCRIPTION:We hope you  join us as summer comes into full swing\, wildlife is active\, and many of our favorite birds are raising their young in the North Country. Experienced birder\, naturalist\, and artist Robert McNamara will lead this cost-free guided walk in the woods of Stone Barn State Forest. \nPlease note that this walk will be off-trail\, with varied terrain throughout\, and is best for older kids and adults.  We will be exploring the woods to find the best bird habitats\, and stopping to observe other living creatures as they reveal themselves. We will even visit a Great Blue Heron rookery\, with the hope of seeing young herons in the nests. Pack your binoculars\, camera\, water\, tick repellent and a brown bag lunch. Comfortable hiking shoes are required for this moderate\, off-trail\, 2-3 mile hike. \nRegister Today! \n

SUMMARY:Trees and Ferns and Birds\, Oh My!
DESCRIPTION:Come explore with us at this free\, family-friendly\, informal guided hike in the woods\, led by Community Programs Director\, Lin Gibbs\, with activities designed to engage the senses and inspire discovery. \nFor your wildlife sanctuary adventure\, please dress for the weather\, wear sturdy shoes (waterproof boots if it has been wet)\, and bring along tick and bug repellent. We will have some water and snacks on hand. If you’d like to have lunch at the trailhead after the hike\, you are welcome to bring along a bag lunch. \nMeet us at the sanctuary parking lot that is adjacent to 31270 Middle Road in Rutland\, NY.  To get to the Sanctuary from Watertown\, take State Street (SR 126) east.  Turn right onto Community Drive (CR 162). Turn left onto Middle Road (CR 160) at the stop sign.  There is a white church on the southeast corner of intersection of Community Drive and Middle Road. The Wildlife Sanctuary is about 3 miles down Middle Road on the north side (left side) of the road.  Look for the wooden sign at the entrance to the parking lot. \nFor more information or to RSVP (encouraged)\, contact Lin Gibbs at 315-779-2239.
