We’ll start at 4:30 pm with an overview of the many owls we might encounter\, from the Northern Saw-whet Owl to the Great Horned Owl\, then take a quiet walk to see if we can see or hear them. Bring along a flashlight or headlamp\, dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy footwear. If there is sufficient snow cover\, you are welcome to use your snowshoes. This is the third of four informational survey outings being held in the Tug Hill region this winter in partnership with the St. Lawrence-Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO PRISM). \nThe Eastern Hemlock is a key tree species found throughout Tug Hill that provides many benefits for people and nature. DESCRIPTION:Perfect for Families\, Classrooms\, Homeschool Groups\, Youth Groups or anyone interested in observing birds in the Tug Hill region. A great activity to incorporate into any part of a STREAM learning curriculum. \nEarly Bird Details\n\nSign up by December 31st.\nStart receiving free learning resources weekly\, beginning January 9th 2023.\n\nTeams fill their feeders no later than May 1st in order to allow the birds to find the food source. Then each team observes the feeders daily May 15th-19th and records the type and number of birds observed. After watching the feeder for the entire week\, tally the results and report your findings back to us. \nThe Tug Hill Bird Quest program is designed to help students and families learn more about the birds that call Tug Hill home. THTLT provides free birdseed and bird feeders upon request and as available\, donated by regional businesses\, to participating teams\, along with a bird identification poster\, data sheets and a free Tug Hill natural history guidebook. DESCRIPTION:Cancelled Due to High Wind Warning \n  \nLet’s celebrate the arrival of December! Head outside for a free\, family-friendly hike at the Development Authority of the North Country’s Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail in Rodman. If we get enough snow\, snowshoes or cross-country skis are welcome. \nHikers will meet at the Murray Trail parking area on NYS Route 177 at 10 am. The parking lot is located on the south side of the road\, west of the official entrance for the Development Authority and east of the Village of Rodman. Look for the brown Murray Trails trailhead sign\, our THTLT sandwich board sign\, and the white building set back from the parking area. Wear your sturdy waterproof boots (gaiters optional)\, or bring your cross-country skis or snowshoes\, and dress in layers appropriate for the weather. The exact location will be sent to registrants via email the week of November 7th\nParking is limited to 8 vehicles\, so registration is required by Thursday\, November 10th\n\nIn this entry level course\, we’ll get back to basics. Learn how to read a compass and map\, then apply your skills by getting outside to locate hidden flags\, following a course that will test what you will have learned about land navigation. \nAttendees should bring a gallon zip lock bag or a map case to hold maps that will be provided. A few compasses will be available to borrow\, but it is recommended that if attendees have their own compass (especially if a base plate compass) that they bring their own. Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT)\, the St. Lawrence-Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO PRISM)\, and NYS DEC Forest Health Specialist Maria MoskaLee will lead the program. \nEvent Details\n\nTuesday\, September 20th\n1pm-3pm\nJoseph A Blake Wildlife Sanctuary\nRegistration is required no later than 8 pm on Monday\, September 19th.\n\nBLD is spreading rapidly across the Northeastern U.S. and Canada\, affecting and killing both native and ornamental beech tree species. Associated with a nematode whose feeding causes dark bands in the leaves. Young trees can die in less than five years after the first signs of damage appear. BLD has only been discovered in recent years. In 2022\, it has been found in 14 new counties in New York\, for a total of 35 infected counties. PFDs are required for all.\n\nOur trip will begin and end at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) public fishing parking area in Westdale\, located approximately 5 miles northwest of Camden\, and about 4.5 miles southeast of Williamstown on Route 13. When you reach Westdale\, turn north onto Cemetery Road and look for the DEC parking area on your right. \nTug Hill Outfitters is donating 10% of all equipment rental to Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust’s land protection and community programs fund. Solo recreational kayak rentals (13 total) are available for $20 per person.  There are also there two tandem (2-person) kayaks\, one 2-person canoe\, and one 3-person canoe available to rent for $30 each. If you’d like to be added to the waiting list in case of cancellations please email jsouva@tughilltomorrow.org** \nIn cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks\, Recreation and Historic Preservation – Central Region\, we invite you to come prowl for owls with us! The prowl will be led by a member of THTLT staff. \nEvent Details\n\nFriday\, May 20th\n7:30pm-9pm\nVerona Beach State Park – 6541 Lakeshore Rd S\, Verona Beach\, NY 13162\nRegistration is required no later than 8 pm on Thursday\, May 19th\n\nThe owl prowl will begin in the parking lot with a brief learning session to cover the owls we might encounter. Then we’ll take a twilight walk in the woods to listen and look! We will be taking a slow-paced stroll around the “Owl Loop Trail” which is approximately 1.7 miles long.  Bring along a flashlight or headlamp\, dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy boots or shoes. If there is enough snow\, and you have them\, you are welcome to use snowshoes \nDetails of where to park and meet will be sent prior to the event via email.  Weather expectations and any other additional details\, will also be sent along with instructions.

DESCRIPTION:Are you an early bird with a penchant for Warblers? Explore the woods and fields for these tiny\, colorful\, sweetly singing birds with us. \nEvent Details\n\nSaturday\, May 14th\n7am-9am\nDouglas L. Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail near Rodman\, NY\nRegistration is required no later than 8 pm on Thursday\, May 13th\n\nWe’ll start at the parking lot with a brief introduction to warblers we might see and/or hear\, and slowly make our way along the loop trails to look and listen. Along the way\, we’ll share tips for finding and observing these spring and summer visitors\, a group of which may be called a bouquet\, a confusion\, a fall\, or a wrench of birds. \nPlease dress for the weather\, wear sturdy walking shoes\, and bring along a pair of binoculars. If you have a spotting scope\, you might bring it along as well. Downloading the free mobile app eBird on your phone before attending and/or bringing along your favorite bird guide could help with identification. SUMMARY:2nd Annual Tug Hill Soggy Sneaker 5K
DESCRIPTION:Usher in spring by running or walking with us in the 2nd Annual Tug Hill Soggy Sneaker 5K trail race \nEvent Details \n\nSaturday\, April 30th\nRace begins at 9:00 am at the Joseph A. Blake Wildlife Sanctuary\n\nPre-registration is required no later than April 29th. Teams are welcomed as well!  A participant liability waiver is required for each individual who will be participating on-site. Registration fee is $25 per person. \nThe first race wave will begin at 9am\, with two waves following at 9:15am and 9:30am. When registering\, please select or your wave time. There is no time limit and this course is walker friendly. While we love your furry friends\, please leave them at home on race day. THTLT reserves the right to alter the number of participants per wave and wave times due to COVID conditions on race day. \nVirtual participation is welcome and available to anyone having to miss the in-person race. As the race is a fundraiser\, no refunds will be issued. The first 150 registered runner both virtual and in-person will receive a race day medal and swag package that will include an earth-friendly seed planting kit\, cloth tote bag\, and more. \nRunners and walkers alike will enjoy the challenging course\, consisting mostly of single-track trails through woods and across many streams. Traverse foot bridges\, log ladder bridges\, and water crossings while gaining over 345’ of elevation. As the location is an active wildlife sanctuary\, expect terrain that accommodates wildlife habitat. Held in late April\, the course could be mostly snow covered\, wet and leafy\, and/or muddy – all part of the seasonal excitement! \nRegister Here!
