Work gloves\, head protection\, insect repellent\, sturdy hiking/work shoes\, water and a brown bag lunch/snacks are recommended. \nTug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust has partnered for several years with the Black River Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club to establish this historic 20-mile north/south hiking trail through the heart of Tug Hill. DESCRIPTION:Join us outside for an outdoor Saturday morning Flow Into Fall yoga session in a mowed meadow surrounded by woodland and gently flowing water\, to ease yourself through this fall season of transition.  Led by experienced certified yoga instructor Carla VanWormer\, this 75-minute yoga class incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm up the body\, as well as slower paced movements focusing on alignment\, strength\, balance\, and flexibility.  The class is suitable for all yoga levels. \n\n\n\n\n\nClass Fee:  $15 per person\, per class session\nTime : 9:30-10:45 am\nLocation: French Settlement Road Public Conservation Area\, Lorraine\nPlease bring your own yoga mat (or let us know if you need one)\, a bottle of water\, and an intention to enjoy a yoga practice together.\n\n\nThis is the first in a series of three outdoor yoga sessions being offered in September and October at THTLT’s French Settlement Road Public Conservation Area. \nOnce registered\, attendees will receive driving directions and a map via email. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Our Instructor: Carla has so much light to share. She is humbled and grateful to share the power of yoga and mindfulness with us\, as she has with hundreds of middle school students seeking calm amidst the tremendous pressures of growing up in today’s society. To date\, Carla has completed her 200-hour yoga teacher certification\, children’s yoga 95-hour teacher certification\, and is registered with the National Yoga Alliance for both areas of yoga. She has earned a MBSR-T certification\, (mindfulness-based stress reduction for teens) and has attended a multitude of trainings and classes in yoga and mindfulness. Over the next few months\, she will be finishing her required hours for a certification and will receive the honor to register with the National Yoga Alliance as a Prenatal and Postnatal yoga teacher (RPYT).  For Carla\, this is just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to learning\, practicing and sharing yoga with schools\, families and friends in yoga. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered what bird that is singing in the woods? Come find out by joining us for a relaxing evening bird walk at Camp Zerbe\, 253 NYS Route 104\, Williamstown\, NY! Camp Zerbe is owned by Oswego County and is operated by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau\, division of Parks and Recreation. Owned and run as a summer camp by the Syracuse Boys’ Club until 1991\, Oswego County has maintained and improved Camp Zerbe as a nature park as well as an educational and recreational resource for the citizens of Oswego County. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot for introductions\, then meander our way through open areas and along forested loop trails. Along the way\, we’ll share tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds. We’ll make a stop at the dock area to survey what birds might be hanging out near Lake Lorraine\, too. This will be an easy\, slow walk through open grassy areas and forested trail habitats with frequent stops. Bring your binoculars if you have them\, wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and/or muddy are best\, and bring along some insect repellent\, just in case. DESCRIPTION:Event Details\n\nFriday\, August 11\, 2023\n6:00 – 8:00 pm\nBring your own canoe or kayak or rent what you need. PFDs are required for all.\n\nLet go of your worries during an easy evening paddle with us as we travel the West Branch of Fish Creek to Gifford Lake and back. This paddle offers great opportunities for photos and wildlife sightings. Gifford Lake is a small\, remote\, undeveloped lake aside from a single house. After paddling around and exploring the lake\, we’ll turn around and paddle downstream back to our starting point. Bring your own boat\, or you can rent one or more boats (see info below) for the trip. \nOur paddle will begin and end at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) public fishing parking area in Westdale\, located approximately 5 miles northwest of Camden\, and about 4.5 miles southeast of Williamstown on Route 13. When you reach Westdale\, turn north onto Cemetery Road and look for the DEC parking area on your right. \nRegister for the Paddle \nNeed to rent a single or tandem kayak? Email Tug Hill Outfitters at tughillhilladventures@gmail.com to let them know what you will need. They’ll send you a link to pay via Paypal or Venmo\, or arrange to pay them cash the day of the trip. They will deliver rental boats to the site\, so you don’t have to pick up and drop off your boat! Special rates for this trip\, too: $25 for a single kayak and $40 for a 2-person kayak. Please be sure and arrange for rental no later than 5 pm\, Thursday\, August 10th.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxing evening bird walk at Whitaker Park in the Town of Martinsburg\, Lewis County. Whitaker Park offers one of Lewis County’s best views of the Black River Valley and the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. Nestled on the eastern slope of the Tug Hill Plateau\, wooded trails direct the park-goer to overlooks of pristine waterfalls characteristic of the area’s gorges and unique geology. \nWe’ll meet at the parking area at end of Whitaker Park Road\, then take an easy walk back along the road and perhaps take the trail to see the gorge. As we walk\, we’ll share tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds.  This will be an easy\, slow walk through field and forest habitats with frequent stops. DESCRIPTION:Relax and look for birds with us! Join us for a relaxing evening bird walk at Salmon River Falls Unique Area on Falls Rd between Orwell and Altmar in northeast Oswego County. Owned by New York State\, the Salmon River Falls Unique Area encompasses 112 acres of land\, with the 110-foot Salmon River Falls and the scenic gorge being the popular attractions there. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot for introductions\, then take the easy walk along the top of the gorge rim to the top of the falls\, stopping at viewpoints along the way. As we walk\, we’ll share tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds.  This will be an easy\, slow walk on a wide forest trail with frequent stops. Bring your binoculars if you have them\, wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and/or muddy\, and bring along some insect repellent\, just in case. DESCRIPTION:Perfect for Families\, Classrooms\, Homeschool Groups\, Youth Groups or anyone interested in observing birds in the Tug Hill region. A great activity to incorporate into any part of a STREAM learning curriculum. \nTeams fill their feeders no later than May 1st in order to allow the birds to find the food source. Then each team observes the feeders daily May 15th-19th and records the type and number of birds observed. After watching the feeder for the entire week\, tally the results and report your findings back to us. \nThe Tug Hill Bird Quest program is designed to help students and families learn more about the birds that call Tug Hill home. THTLT provides free birdseed and a bird feeder upon request and as available\, donated by regional businesses\, to participating teams\, along with a tally sheet and a free copy of the Tug Hill Natural History Guide. Teams receive Bird of the Day emails with photos\, fun facts and identification tips about birds April 3rd through May 12. After observing feeders for the official event week\, teams complete the provided tally sheet and return it to THTLT by May 31st. DESCRIPTION:Explore the woods and fields along the Douglas L. Murray Trail on Route 177 near Rodman\, NY with us to listen and look for Spring birds! We’ll meet in the parking lot with a brief introduction to birds we might see and/or hear\, and slowly make our way along the 0.8-mile Loop 1 trail to look and listen. Along the way\, we’ll share tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds. This will be an easy\, slow walk\, through scrubby field and forested habitats with frequent stops. \nThe trail is mowed and relatively uneven\, with grass and leafy surfaces\, and mostly flat in elevation. The Murray Trail is named for former Development Authority board member and chairman\, Doug Murray. Doug also served as a founding board member for Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust. DESCRIPTION:Usher in spring by running or walking with us in the 3rd Annual Tug Hill Soggy Sneaker 5K trail race! \nEvent Details \n\nSaturday\, April 29\, 2023\nRace begins at 9:00 am at the Joseph A. Blake Wildlife Sanctuary\n\nPre-registration is required no later than April 28th. Individuals and Teams are welcome! \nRegistration fee is $25 per person. A participant liability waiver is required for each individual who will be participating on-site. \nThe race will begin at 9:00 am for all participants. There is no time limit for completion. The course is also walker friendly. While we love your furry friends\, please leave them at home on race day. \nVirtual participation is welcome and available to anyone having to miss the in-person race. A virtual run or walk is done at the participant’s choice of time and location\, preferably on the same day as the event. \nAs the event is a fundraiser\, no refunds will be issued. The first 150 registered participants\, whether virtual or in-person\, will receive a race day medal and swag package. \nRunners and walkers alike will enjoy this off-road course\, consisting mostly of single-track trails through woods and across many streams. Participants will traverse foot bridges\, log ladder bridges\, and water crossings while gaining over 345’ of elevation. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an evening walk and owl prowl with THTLT at the Joseph A. Blake Wildlife Sanctuary in the Town of Rutland. We’ll learn about the ways animals are adapted to a low-light lifestyle\, look for all types of animal tracks and signs\, and look and listen for owls! The outing will begin in the parking lot at 7:15 pm. A brief learning session to discuss animal adaptations and the owls we might encounter will be followed by a twilight walk with activities along the way that explore how owls and other animals navigate in low to no light. Bring along a flashlight or headlamp\, dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy waterproof boots or shoes. Come to the Didymus Thomas Memorial Library in Remsen on Tuesday\, April 11th to find out more about what makes birds special\, how birdwatchers identify different birds\, and how we can all help birds thrive. We’ll use contents of the new Tug Hill Birding Explorer Backpack to learn about common local birds – their names\, where to look for them\, what they eat\, where they build nests – and play a game of Bird Bingo to practice our new knowledge. Then we’ll take a walk near the library to see what birds we can see and hear. DESCRIPTION:Join THTLT for a guided walk at Verona State Park looking and listening for woodland owls. We’ll start at 6:00 pm with an overview of common owls found in the area\, from the Northern Saw-whet Owl to the Great Horned Owl. Then we’ll take a quiet walk to see if we can see or hear them. Bring along a flashlight or headlamp\, dress for the weather\, and wear sturdy footwear. If there is sufficient snow cover\, you are welcome to use your snowshoes. SUMMARY:Salmon River Falls Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Survey Training Walk and Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided walk on Thursday\, March 16th\, 10 am to 12:30 pm\, at the Salmon River Falls Unique Area near Altmar\, NY\, and learn to recognize and report Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) – an invasive insect the size of a poppy seed threatening hemlock trees. The Eastern Hemlock is a key tree species found throughout Tug Hill that provides many benefits for people and nature. Detecting the presence of HWA early on provides enough time to protect infested trees and helps to stop the spread to new areas.
