SUMMARY:Tug Hill Book Club March Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, March 26th\, 6:00 – 7:30 pm for our first 2026 Tug Hill Book Club meeting. LOCATION (Changed): The NEST at 132 Franklin St.\, Watertown\, NY. Parking is streetside.\n\n\nWe are a friendly\, informal group who like to read mostly (but not only) non-fiction books about animals\, natural history\, cultural history and environmental issues happening in or applicable to the Tug Hill region.  The Tug Hill Book club meets at 6 pm on the fourth Thursday of every other month beginning in March. We alternate gathering locations between a Watertown and Lowville site for each gathering. All meetings are hybrid so all can attend in whatever way works best for them – location directions and an online link is provided to all prior to each meeting. \n\n\nTwo books are suggested for each discussion. Members can choose to read one or both books based on their interest and reading time available. Join in when you’d like for whatever books you’d like – there’s no pressure to read for every gathering. Readers are responsible for obtaining a copy of the books themselves (any form – paper\, online\, audio\, etc.). \n\n\nWe also have a Tug Hill Book and Beverage Club Facebook group for between-meeting discussions and announcements through Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust. Check it out if you’re on Facebook!\n\n\nFor March 26th\, we’re reading:\n1)The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier\, Healthier\, and More Creative by Florence Williams\nAuthor Florence Williams sets out to uncover the science behind nature’s positive effects on the brain. From forest trails in Korea\, to islands in Finland\, to groves of eucalyptus in California\, Williams investigates the science at the confluence of environment\, mood\, health\, and creativity. Delving into completely new research\, she uncovers the powers of the natural world to improve health\, promote reflection and innovation\, and ultimately strengthen our relationships\n\n2) Irreplaceable: The Fight to Save Our Wild Places by Julian Hoffman\nThis book about the power of resistance in an age of loss is a testament to the transformative possibilities that emerge when people unite to defend our most special places and wildlife from extinction. In the process of tracing the stories of threatened places around the globe through the voices of local communities\, grassroots campaigners\, professional ecologists and academics\, the author asks what a deep emotional relationship with place offers us–culturally\, socially and psychologically.\nRSVP HERE
