DESCRIPTION:Join us outside for an outdoor Saturday morning Flow Into Fall yoga session in a mowed meadow surrounded by woodland and gently flowing water\, to ease yourself through this fall season of transition.  Led by experienced certified yoga instructor Carla VanWormer\, this 75-minute yoga class incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm up the body\, as well as slower paced movements focusing on alignment\, strength\, balance\, and flexibility.  The class is suitable for all yoga levels. \n\n\n\n\n\nClass Fee:  $15 per person\, per class session\nTime : 9:30-10:45 am\nLocation: French Settlement Road Public Conservation Area\, Lorraine\nPlease bring your own yoga mat (or let us know if you need one)\, a bottle of water\, and an intention to enjoy a yoga practice together.\n\n\nThis is the second in a series of three outdoor yoga sessions being offered in September and October at THTLT’s French Settlement Road Public Conservation Area. \nOnce registered\, attendees will receive driving directions and a map via email. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Our Instructor: Carla has so much light to share. She is humbled and grateful to share the power of yoga and mindfulness with us\, as she has with hundreds of middle school students seeking calm amidst the tremendous pressures of growing up in today’s society. To date\, Carla has completed her 200-hour yoga teacher certification\, children’s yoga 95-hour teacher certification\, and is registered with the National Yoga Alliance for both areas of yoga. She has earned a MBSR-T certification\, (mindfulness-based stress reduction for teens) and has attended a multitude of trainings and classes in yoga and mindfulness. Please screen shot or print your map and directions before heading out. \nPlan on wearing comfortable\, sturdy hiking boots\, as we will be doing off-trail hiking over moderately difficult terrain. DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered what bird that is singing in the woods? Come find out by joining us for a relaxing evening bird walk at Camp Zerbe\, 253 NYS Route 104\, Williamstown\, NY! Camp Zerbe is owned by Oswego County and is operated by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau\, division of Parks and Recreation. Owned and run as a summer camp by the Syracuse Boys’ Club until 1991\, Oswego County has maintained and improved Camp Zerbe as a nature park as well as an educational and recreational resource for the citizens of Oswego County. \nWe’ll meet in the parking lot for introductions\, then meander our way through open areas and along forested loop trails. Along the way\, we’ll share tips for finding\, identifying and observing spring and summer birds. We’ll make a stop at the dock area to survey what birds might be hanging out near Lake Lorraine\, too. This will be an easy\, slow walk through open grassy areas and forested trail habitats with frequent stops. Bring your binoculars if you have them\, wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and/or muddy are best\, and bring along some insect repellent\, just in case. DESCRIPTION:Event Details\n\nFriday\, August 11\, 2023\n6:00 – 8:00 pm\nBring your own canoe or kayak or rent what you need. PFDs are required for all.\n\nLet go of your worries during an easy evening paddle with us as we travel the West Branch of Fish Creek to Gifford Lake and back. This paddle offers great opportunities for photos and wildlife sightings. Gifford Lake is a small\, remote\, undeveloped lake aside from a single house. After paddling around and exploring the lake\, we’ll turn around and paddle downstream back to our starting point. Bring your own boat\, or you can rent one or more boats (see info below) for the trip. \nOur paddle will begin and end at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) public fishing parking area in Westdale\, located approximately 5 miles northwest of Camden\, and about 4.5 miles southeast of Williamstown on Route 13. When you reach Westdale\, turn north onto Cemetery Road and look for the DEC parking area on your right. \nRegister for the Paddle \nNeed to rent a single or tandem kayak? Email Tug Hill Outfitters at tughillhilladventures@gmail.com to let them know what you will need. They’ll send you a link to pay via Paypal or Venmo\, or arrange to pay them cash the day of the trip. They will deliver rental boats to the site\, so you don’t have to pick up and drop off your boat! Special rates for this trip\, too: $25 for a single kayak and $40 for a 2-person kayak. Please be sure and arrange for rental no later than 5 pm\, Thursday\, August 10th.

SUMMARY:Bird Quest 2023
DESCRIPTION:Perfect for Families\, Classrooms\, Homeschool Groups\, Youth Groups or anyone interested in observing birds in the Tug Hill region. A great activity to incorporate into any part of a STREAM learning curriculum. \nTeams fill their feeders no later than May 1st in order to allow the birds to find the food source. Then each team observes the feeders daily May 15th-19th and records the type and number of birds observed. After watching the feeder for the entire week\, tally the results and report your findings back to us. \nThe Tug Hill Bird Quest program is designed to help students and families learn more about the birds that call Tug Hill home. THTLT provides free birdseed and a bird feeder upon request and as available\, donated by regional businesses\, to participating teams\, along with a tally sheet and a free copy of the Tug Hill Natural History Guide. Teams receive Bird of the Day emails with photos\, fun facts and identification tips about birds April 3rd through May 12. After observing feeders for the official event week\, teams complete the provided tally sheet and return it to THTLT by May 31st. SUMMARY:3rd Annual Tug Hill Soggy Sneaker 5K
DESCRIPTION:Usher in spring by running or walking with us in the 3rd Annual Tug Hill Soggy Sneaker 5K trail race! \nEvent Details \n\nSaturday\, April 29\, 2023\nRace begins at 9:00 am at the Joseph A. Blake Wildlife Sanctuary\n\nPre-registration is required no later than April 28th. Individuals and Teams are welcome! \nRegistration fee is $25 per person. A participant liability waiver is required for each individual who will be participating on-site. \nThe race will begin at 9:00 am for all participants. There is no time limit for completion. The course is also walker friendly. While we love your furry friends\, please leave them at home on race day. \nVirtual participation is welcome and available to anyone having to miss the in-person race. A virtual run or walk is done at the participant’s choice of time and location\, preferably on the same day as the event. \nAs the event is a fundraiser\, no refunds will be issued. The first 150 registered participants\, whether virtual or in-person\, will receive a race day medal and swag package. \nRunners and walkers alike will enjoy this off-road course\, consisting mostly of single-track trails through woods and across many streams. Participants will traverse foot bridges\, log ladder bridges\, and water crossings while gaining over 345’ of elevation. As the location is an active wildlife sanctuary\, expect terrain that accommodates wildlife habitat. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided walk on Thursday\, March 16th\, 10 am to 12:30 pm\, at the Salmon River Falls Unique Area near Altmar\, NY\, and learn to recognize and report Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) – an invasive insect the size of a poppy seed threatening hemlock trees. The Eastern Hemlock is a key tree species found throughout Tug Hill that provides many benefits for people and nature. Detecting the presence of HWA early on provides enough time to protect infested trees and helps to stop the spread to new areas. DESCRIPTION:Perfect for Families\, Classrooms\, Homeschool Groups\, Youth Groups or anyone interested in observing birds in the Tug Hill region. A great activity to incorporate into any part of a STREAM learning curriculum. \nEarly Bird Details\n\nSign up by December 31st.\nStart receiving free learning resources weekly\, beginning January 9th 2023.\n\nTeams fill their feeders no later than May 1st in order to allow the birds to find the food source. Then each team observes the feeders daily May 15th-19th and records the type and number of birds observed. After watching the feeder for the entire week\, tally the results and report your findings back to us. \nThe Tug Hill Bird Quest program is designed to help students and families learn more about the birds that call Tug Hill home. THTLT provides free birdseed and bird feeders upon request and as available\, donated by regional businesses\, to participating teams\, along with a bird identification poster\, data sheets and a free Tug Hill natural history guidebook. DESCRIPTION:  \nCome cross-country ski or snowshoe with Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT) at the Black River Environmental Improvement Association’s (BREIA) Potato Hill Farm campus near Boonville Saturday\, December 10th from 10 am to 2 pm. The outing will be dependent upon adequate snowfall. Participants are welcome to use their own skis or snowshoes. If needed\, BROEP can provide xc-skis\, snowshoes and associated equipment upon request free for up to 40 people. \nThe Potato Hill Farm campus in Oneida County\, offers over four miles of well-maintained trails across 170 acres of land. Trails are primarily easy\, with an area of moderate trails for those who like more of a challenge. DESCRIPTION:Cancelled Due to High Wind Warning \n  \nLet’s celebrate the arrival of December! Head outside for a free\, family-friendly hike at the Development Authority of the North Country’s Murray Agricultural Heritage Trail in Rodman. If we get enough snow\, snowshoes or cross-country skis are welcome. \nHikers will meet at the Murray Trail parking area on NYS Route 177 at 10 am. The parking lot is located on the south side of the road\, west of the official entrance for the Development Authority and east of the Village of Rodman. Look for the brown Murray Trails trailhead sign\, our THTLT sandwich board sign\, and the white building set back from the parking area. Wear your sturdy waterproof boots (gaiters optional)\, or bring your cross-country skis or snowshoes\, and dress in layers appropriate for the weather. SUMMARY:How Can I Protect Hemlock Trees from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid?

Apologies for any inconvenience. \nJoin us for a guided walk at the James A. Blake Wildlife Sanctuary\, 31241 Middle Rd.\, Watertown (located in the Town of Rutland) and learn to recognize and report Hemlock Woolly Adelgid HWA (or the lack thereof) – an invasive insect that kills hemlock trees. This is the first of multiple informational survey outings we’ll be holding in the Tug Hill region this winter. The Eastern Hemlock is a key tree species found throughout Tug Hill that provides many benefits for people and nature. Detecting the presence of HWA early on provides enough time to protect infested trees and helps to stop the spread to new areas. Trainers will help participants learn how to identify the Eastern Hemlock\, survey for HWA and report observations using their smartphone through a free mobile application called iMapInvasives (a community science tool). This first session will also be attended by WPBS Watertown\, as the station is putting together a piece on SLELO PRISM’s training and monitoring program with partners. DESCRIPTION:What if you’re out hiking on Tug Hill and your GPS device isn’t working (Hello\, Osceola)? What if you’re out hunting somewhere off-trail or in a remote location without cell service? Join us and Tug Hill Outfitters in learning how to use a map and compass to find your way in and out of the woods\, and decrease your chances of getting lost. \nEvent Details\n\nSunday\, November 13th\n1pm-4pm\nThis course will be held on a protected property on private land near Camden\, NY. The exact location will be sent to registrants via email the week of November 7th\nParking is limited to 8 vehicles\, so registration is required by Thursday\, November 10th\n\nIn this entry level course\, we’ll get back to basics. Learn how to read a compass and map\, then apply your skills by getting outside to locate hidden flags\, following a course that will test what you will have learned about land navigation. \nAttendees should bring a gallon zip lock bag or a map case to hold maps that will be provided. A few compasses will be available to borrow\, but it is recommended that if attendees have their own compass (especially if a base plate compass) that they bring their own. Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust (THTLT)\, the St. Lawrence-Eastern Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO PRISM)\, and NYS DEC Forest Health Specialist Maria MoskaLee will lead the program. \nEvent Details\n\nTuesday\, September 20th\n1pm-3pm\nJoseph A Blake Wildlife Sanctuary\nRegistration is required no later than 8 pm on Monday\, September 19th.\n\nBLD is spreading rapidly across the Northeastern U.S. and Canada\, affecting and killing both native and ornamental beech tree species. Associated with a nematode whose feeding causes dark bands in the leaves. Young trees can die in less than five years after the first signs of damage appear. BLD has only been discovered in recent years. In 2022\, it has been found in 14 new counties in New York\, for a total of 35 infected counties.
