SUMMARY:Guided Hike to learn how to help protect Hemlock Trees from Invasive Species
DESCRIPTION:You can help protect Hemlock Trees from Invasive Species! Join us and the St. Lawrence-Lake Ontario Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (SLELO-PRISM) for a guided hike to search for and learn how to report sightings of Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (the invasive insect threatening Hemlock Trees) on Saturday\, March 13th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Trenton Greenbelt Trails near Barneveld.  \nHemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) kills hemlock trees. Hemlocks are a key tree species for healthy forests in the Tug Hill region and elsewhere\, and your efforts can make a difference in preventing the spread of this insect. During this field session\, you’ll learn how to identify Eastern Hemlock\, its role in the forest\, how to perform early detection surveys\, how to report observations using iMapInvasives mobile app\, and how to become a volunteer monitor for THTLT and SLELO. \nRegistration is required. Masks are mandatory\, and attendees will social distance in conjunction with COVID19 recommendations. We will be outside for the entire workshop\, so participants should dress for the weather \nRegister Here! \nAttendees are encouraged to make a free iMapInvasives user account and download the iMap mobile app prior to attending the hike. By searching for and reporting observations\, volunteers aid a state-wide effort to monitor for and manage HWA. \nBefore attending the hike please follow the below steps to set up a free iMapInvasives user account. \n\nVisit https://imapinvasives.natureserve.org/imap/login.jsp and make a free iMap account (instructions if needed) Do this even if you do not have a smart phone as you can use paper survey forms and upload observations via the desktop version\n\nIf you have a mobile device\, follow these additional steps: \n\nDownload the iMapInvasives mobile app in the google play or the app store onto your mobile device\nVisit your email and find the iMapInvasive user account confirmation email and open it to confirm your account\nSign onto the IMapInvasives mobile app using your credentials you made on the iMap website\nWe will show you how to use the mobile app at the training here is a guide for reference\nFor those using the online version here are instructions and SLELO PRISM hosts trainings on how to use the iMap desktop version in the spring and there are other trainings available at  https://www.nyimapinvasives.org/upcoming-trainings
