SUMMARY:Tug Hill Book Club August Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join the Tug Hill Book & Beverage Club!\nJoin us on Wednesday\, August 5\, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. for our next Tug Hill Book & Beverage Club gathering! We’ll be meeting in person in Watertown\, with an online option available for those who prefer to join from home. \nWhether you’re a longtime member or joining us for the first time\, we’d love to have you. Our Book & Beverage Club is a welcoming\, relaxed group that enjoys thoughtful conversations about books exploring nature\, wildlife\, environmental issues\, natural history\, and cultural history—especially topics connected to or relevant to the Tug Hill region. \nThere’s no pressure to attend every meeting or read every book. For each discussion\, we suggest two books\, and you’re welcome to read one\, both\, or simply come for the conversation. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own copies in the format they prefer\, whether print\, ebook\, or audiobook. \nThe club meets every other month\, alternating between Watertown and Lowville\, and every meeting is offered in a hybrid format so everyone can participate in the way that works best for them. Registered participants will receive location details or the online meeting link before the event. \nBetween meetings\, keep the conversation going by joining the Tug Hill Book & Beverage Club Facebook Group\, where members share book recommendations\, discuss current reads\, and receive club announcements. \nOur August 5th Selections\n\nWater Always Wins by Erica Gies\n\nScience journalist Erica Gies introduces readers to hydrologists\, restoration ecologists\, engineers\, and urban planners who are rethinking our relationship with water. DESCRIPTION:Help us make progress on a historic Tug Hill hiking route – the Tug Hill Traverse Trail – and count yourself a vital part of the effort! \nTwice a month\, from June to September\, volunteers meet in the heart of Tug Hill and work together to maintain current sections of the trail as well as clear and mark remaining sections. With over 10 miles completed\, eventually the full trail will cover approximately 20 miles\, from Montague to Osceola\, through the amazing and remote core forest\, headwaters of the East Branch of Fish Creek. \nVolunteers meet at the day’s designated location at 10:00 am and work until 2:00 pm. Stay for an hour\, stay for the day – it’s all good. \nWe’ll email those signed up for each date a few days prior to give the day’s meeting location\, suggest what kinds of tools to bring if available\, and provide driving directions and a map. Work gloves\, a brimmed hat\, lightweight long pants and shirt sleeves\, insect repellent\, sturdy hiking/work shoes\, water and a brown bag lunch/snacks are recommended. \nTug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust has partnered for several years with the Black River Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club to establish this historic 20-mile north/south hiking trail through the heart of Tug Hill. The Tug Hill Traverse Trail extends from the DEC’s Tug Hill Wildlife Management Area on the north to the West Leyden Osceola Rd on the south\, and generally follows the East Branch of Fish Creek. His research focuses on forest ecology\, climate change\, and helping forests adapt to a changing climate.
