They drink treesap and can kill a Hemlock tree within 5 years. An invasive forest pest called hemlock woolly adelgid, HWA, is killing hemlock trees in New York and beyond. Detecting HWA early on is vital to reducing the impact that this pest has on our forests. You can help by learning to identify, survey, and report HWA. Join our unique learning series to get these skills! These events are hosted by SLELO PRISM and the Tug HIll Tomorrow Land Trust. Learning Series Overview: To get the full experience, participants are encouraged to join sessions 1 and 2 before attending the HWA survey hikes.Session 1: December 5th, 2025, 1-2:30 PM: HWA and iMapInvasives webinar. If you can’t attend, a recording will be available. Session 2: December 18th, 2025, 12:45-2 PM: Field trip to view HWA in person at Independence Park, located off Rikers Beach Road in Oswego, NY.
