Watertown, Jefferson County
Norah Machia spent 20 years writing about health and human services for the Watertown Daily Times before joining the Northern New York Magazines as a regular contributor. She completed her first book, Tug Hill—Shaping the Future of the Region, for the Tug Hill Commission in 2018. Her husband, Tony, who was raised on a dairy farm in Rodman, took all the photographs for the book. It was through her research and the many personal interviews conducted for the project that Norah developed a deep appreciation for Tug Hill and the people who live and work in the region.
As a freelance writer, her work has appeared in numerous local, regional and national publications, including a recent article published in Humanities, the official magazine of the National Endowment for the Humanities, Washington, D.C. Norah earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Health Policy Studies from Syracuse University, and has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Jefferson Community College.
