Snowshoe Treks Held Throughout Region
Although the Tug Hill region has not received its normal snowfall accumulation, scheduled snowshoe field trips have been held in Osceola, Watertown and Lowville.
The first field trip was held in the Osceola area on January 9, 2010 – and was very well received, with 22 participants braving the winter cold to enjoy a crisp day outside. Held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Watertown’s Thompson Park, was the second successful snowshoe outing of the year. The trek was approximately 2 miles in length, and began at the Olmstead Loop (a section of the highly popular Thompson Park trails) and finished by following the tree line circling the back of the Watertown Golf Course, and the NYS Zoo at Thompson Park. Pictured in the photo to the right are some of the participants from the Thompson Park trek. Most recently, Tug Hill Tomorrow partnered with the Oneida-Lewis Chapter ARC. The ARC works to provide advocacy and services for people with disabilities. Tug Hill Tomorrow staff led participants from the ARC across grounds at the Maple Ridge Center, Lowville, NY. The field trip was a very positive experience for everyone involved. Tug Hill Tomorrow plans to partner with the ARC on other outdoor adventures in the future. Pictured in the two photos below are participants from the ARC. The Tug Hill Tomorrow 2010 Schedule of Field Trips and Special Events is now available.
