INDEPENDENCE RIVER EASEMENT

Closed in 2008, the Indepencence River Easement is 103 acres along the Independence River in the Town of Greig, Lewis County. The conservation easement sets limits which are aligned with the Wild, Scenic and Recreational River requirements. This law requires a minimum setback for structures of 150 feet and limited vegetative removal. The Independence River is extremely important to recreational users and is used frequently by kayakers.

The easement allows for up to two residential structures and sustainable timber management is allowed with a forest management plan prepared by a qualified professional forester. THTLT hopes to expand this project area by working with additional landowners.
